Man facing assault, drug charges after South Porcupine incident

Police say an altercation escalated and the accused tried to assault another man with a weapon

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Criminal Code and drug offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the mid-morning hours of Tuesday, March 1 at a South Porcupine apartment building. 

An altercation took place at a Crawford Street apartment between two men that escalated to the point where one of the men attempted to assault the other with a weapon. 

The other man was able to escape injury and notify the police.  

Responding officers managed to identify, locate and arrest the suspect a short distance from the original scene.  

Quantities of methamphetamines were located on the suspect’s person during the arrest. As a result of the incident, Ryan Mahon, 33, of no fixed address has been charged with: 

  • Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of  Canada 
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances  Act 
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 

The accused remains in police custody awaiting respective bail hearings slated for today at the  Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
