Man cuts hand breaking apartment window in South Porcupine incident: police

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred at a Crawford Street apartment building during the noon hour of Sunday, Jan. 23.

The Timmins Police responded to an incident where a male party attempted to gain entry into an apartment by forcing the door open.

Being unsuccessful, the suspect then proceeded to break an apartment window with his bare hand resulting in a laceration.

The subject fled the scene on foot but was identified and located shortly afterwards outside of a William Street address.

The suspect attempted to avoid the police by fleeing this location on foot but was eventually taken into police custody.

As a result of the incident, Jeffrey Sutherland, 25, of Timmins, has been charged with: 

  • Mischief under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The arrested person received medical treatment for the laceration he suffered at the original scene.

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
