Man charged after shots fired during neighbour dispute: police

Editor's Note: James Bay OPP is conducting an investigation today on Lefebvre Peninsula Road in Moonbeam. In a tweet, OPP said there are no concerns for public safety, but the public is asked to stay away from the area. Police say today's investigation and the incident that resulted in charges below are connected.

On Sept. 21, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident involving a firearm on Lefebvre Peninsula Road in Moonbeam.

The investigation revealed that there was a neighbour dispute and afterwards shots were fired. Nobody was injured in this incident. 

As a result of the investigation, Kenneth Cadeau, 35-years-of-age, from Moonbeam, was arrested and charged with:

  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Uttering Threats - Damage or Injure Animal, contrary to section 264.1(1)(c) of the CC
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC
  • Firearm - Use While Committing Offence, contrary to section 85(1)(a) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 24, 2021 in Cochrane
