Man charged after police station garage door damaged

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from a set of incidents that occurred at the Timmins Police station on Sunday, July 31.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a disturbance in progress in the lobby of the police station where an agitated person was yelling profanities towards members of the public.

Responding Timmins Police officers took the man into custody.

Once order was restored, the man was released from custody on the strength of an Undertaking compelling him to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 30 to answer to the Criminal Code charge of causing a disturbance.

[It is alleged that] the subject then proceeded to damage a police station garage door and to cause damage to a vehicle parked nearby.

As a result of the renewed incident, William Hamilton, 68, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Cause disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of mischief Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to address the charges laid against him.
