Man charged after Kirkland Lake home entered on consecutive days

A 36-year-old man is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 among other charges

On July 16, 2022, frontline members from the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating a theft from a residence located on Rand Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

On July 17, 2022, police received another call about a second theft from the same property. As a result of the investigation, one person has been arrested.

Derek Miness, 36 years of age, of Kirkland Lake has been charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC) (two counts)
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC (two counts)
  • Fail to comply with appearance notice, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 25, 2022, in Kirkland Lake.
