Man charged after allegedly trying to steal laptop, motel room keys

A 29-year-old is facing a number of charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with theft-related offences stemming from an incident that occurred early this morning, Feb. 7, at a Timmins motel.

At approximately 12:40 a.m., a male person entered the motel and was observed rummaging through a maintenance room where he attempted to make off with a laptop computer valued at $800.00 and a large number of room keys.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers located the suspect on scene.

The stolen items were recovered and the suspect was arrested without incident.

As a result of the incident, George Stephen, 29, of Timmins, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 2 counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Fail to comply with recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
