Man accused of brandishing a knife in Schumacher altercation

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an assaultive altercation that occurred late yesterday afternoon (June 28) in the vicinity of Croatia Street in Schumacher.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a complaint regarding a disturbance where a male subject had brandished a knife while involved in an altercation with another man.

The victim was unharmed and sustained no injury in the incident. The suspect was located by the responding Timmins Police Service officers a short distance from the original scene. It was determined that the suspect was bound by a series of conditions imposed by the Provincial Court in Timmins.

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the altercation, Brandon Sutherland, 30, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
