Kirkland Lake resident accused of break and enter, shoplifting twice in five days

Police say on Sept. 20, the accused attempted to run from police

KIRKLAND LAKE – On Sept. 15, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on Main Street in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

As a result of the investigation one person has been arrested and charged.

Joshua Galarneau, age 29, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:

  • Break, enter a place - commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Theft under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC,
  • Mischief under $5000, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(a) of the CC; and
  • Failure to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Sept. 29, 2020.

On Sept. 20, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a shoplifting incident at a business on Government Road East in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police observed the accused near the scene and they attempted to run from police, however they were caught and arrested without incident.

As a result, the same accused, was charged with the following:  

  • Resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), 
  • Theft under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC; and  
  • Fail to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video, on Sept. 29, 2020.
