Kirkland Lake OPP help nab Englehart armed robbery suspects

It is alleged that one suspect robbed the convenience store, brandishing a weapon and the other drove the vehicle

ENGLEHART - On Nov. 28, 2019, shortly after 4:30 a.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Temiskaming Crime Unit and a Scenes of Crime Officer were advised of an armed robbery that occurred on Fourth Avenue in the Town of Englehart.  

One of the two suspects entered the convenience store with their face covered, brandished a weapon and demanded cash and cigarettes. Upon leaving the store, the suspect got into a vehicle which was being driven by the other suspect.  

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., members from the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the OPP observed the suspect vehicle, initiated a traffic stop and both suspects were arrested without incident.  

As a result of police investigation, a 19-year-old Englehart resident, has been charged with the following:  

  •  Armed robbery, contrary to section 343(d) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC;
  • Disguise with intent, contrary to section 351(2) of the CC;
  • Imitation firearm - Use while committing offence, contrary to section 85(2)(a) of the CC;
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC; and
  • Fail to comply with sentence, contrary to section 137 of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Brent Fisher, a 42-year-old Englehart resident, has been charged with the following:  

  •  Armed robbery, contrary to section 343(d) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Theft of motor vehicle, contrary to section 333.1 of the CC; and
  • Fail to comply with recognizance (two counts), contrary to section 145(3) of the CC.

Both accused persons remain in custody and are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 3, 2019, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
