Kirkland Lake driver charged with travelling more than 50 km/h over speed limit

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Feb. 17, 2020, a member of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle that was travelling at a speed more than 140 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 90 km/h zone on Highway 66 in McGarry Township, Ont.

As a result, the OPP have charged a 32-year-old driver from Kirkland Lake, Ont., with:
    •    Speeding by 50 or more kilometres per hour (km/h), contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

In addition to the charge, the driver was served a seven day driver's licence suspension along with a seven day vehicle impoundment.

The driver was released by way of summons and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 7, 2020, in Kirkland Lake.
