On June 3, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police received a call regarding a motor vehicle needing assistance on Municipal Road in Val Rita.
Police located the vehicle and spoke to the driver of the motor vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the driver was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. As a result, the driver was arrested, driver's licence suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.
Gilles Dorval, 54-years-old of Kapuskasing, was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (BAC) (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
- Resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 26, 2021 in Kapuskasing.
