Two arrested for drug trafficking also accused of stealing a vehicle

Police say they located a quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine tablets upon investigation

The Timmins Police Service has charged two persons with a number of Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and Drug Possession offences stemming from an incident which occurred during the evening hours of Wednesday, May 27 on Algonquin Blvd in Timmins.

While completing patrols of the downtown core, a Timmins Police Service officer noted that a vehicle was being driven in a somewhat suspicious fashion.

A police check verified that the Quebec licence plate on the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt passenger vehicle was in fact stolen.

A traffic stop was initiated by the officer on Algonquin Blvd, where the driver proceeded to provide a false name to the police.

The female passenger exited the vehicle and began to leave but was halted by the police.

As the event and subsequent investigative measures undertaken by the officer unfolded, a quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine tablets were located by the Timmins Police.

Responding Timmins Police officers contained the immediate area for public safety reasons.

As a result of the incident, Michel Corriveau, 39, of Val Gagne and Melissa Doire, 33 of Timmins, have been charged jointly with:  

  • Two count each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act  
  • Two counts each of possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Doire has been released from police custody on the strength of an Undertaking requiring that she attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on August 25 to answer to the charges laid against her.

Corriveau stands charged with additional counts of:  

  • Personation with intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada  
  • Refuse to comply with demand – Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada  
  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Drive motor vehicle while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act  
  • Drive motor vehicle – no permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act  
  • Use plates not authorized contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Fail to surrender suspended licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Drive motor vehicle – No insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

Corriveau was held in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing held on the morning of Thursday May 28 at Provincial Court in Timmins, to answer to the charges laid against him.
