Guns, $35K of drugs seized in Cochrane (3 photos)

A 30-year-old is facing a number of charges

On Oct. 17, 2021, at approximately 12:29 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a suspected wanted person on Fifth Street in the Town of Cochrane. The accused was subsequently arrested and further investigation revealed that they were in possession of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.

While continuing with the investigation, members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) along with the Cochrane OPP, conducted a search warrant at a residence in the Town of Cochrane. A search of the residence led to the seizure of numerous firearms, ammunition, suspected cocaine, suspected methamphetamine, suspected oxycodone, suspected fentanyl and Canadian currency. The value of the drugs seized is believed to be over $35,000.

As a result of the investigation Morgan Fournier, 30 years old from Cochrane was arrested and charged with:

  • Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (Other than Heroin) (Two Counts), contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (Other than Heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Five Counts), contrary to section 91(1) of the CC
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition (Two Counts), contrary to section 92(2) of the CC
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC

The accused person appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice by way of video on Oct. 18, 2021 in Cochrane.
