Fifth Avenue incident leads to arrest

Two people arrested in separate incidents

The Timmins Police Service arrested a local resident on the strength of an arrest warrant that was executed stemming from an incident that occurred yesterday at a Fifth Avenue address.

While responding to a call for service, a Timmins Police Service officer located the subject of the complaint.

Through investigation, it was determined that the woman was the subject of an arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police Service.

Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result, Melissa Iahtail, 37, of Timmins was arrested on the strength of the warrant.

She remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges that resulted in the arrest warrant being issued.

In a separate incident, the Timmins Police Service took a local resident into custody this morning on the strength of a Bench Warrant that had been issued by the Ontario Court of Justice stemming from an incident where the accused failed to attend court.

Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result, Normand Gamache, 59, of Timmins has been charged with: 

  • Fail to attend court contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges that resulted in the arrest Warrant being issued.
