Englehart teen charged with assault

ENGLEHART - On Sept. 29, 2020 shortly after 10:30 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic assault incident on First Street in the Town of Englehart.

Further investigation revealed that two individuals were involved in an altercation. A third person intervened and was assaulted. The perpetrator then fled the scene.

The two victims sustained minor injuries.

On Oct. 1, 2020 shortly after 7:30 a.m., the accused was placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation a 17-year-old resident of Englehart, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), is charged with:
    •    Assault (two counts), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC, and
    •    Fail to comply with sentence, contrary to section 137 of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Youth Court of Justice at a later date, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
