Driver flees police, crashes near Kapuskasing: OPP

The 32-year-old faces multiple charges as a result

MOONBEAM – On Oct. 13, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Government Road in Kapuskasing.

Police stopped the motor vehicle and spoke with the driver. Shortly after, the driver of the motor vehicle fled from police.

Approximately 10 minutes later, James Bay OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 involving the same vehicle west of Moonbeam. The driver of the motor vehicle was uninjured and had fled the scene on foot.

As a result of the investigation the James Bay Emergency Response Team (ERT) along with an OPP Canine Unit and James Bay Detachment members located the driver, Stetson Tremblay, 32-years-old of Kapuskasing, who was arrested and charged with:

  • Flight from Peace Officer, contrary to section 320.17 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Dangerous Operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC
  • Red Light - Fail to Stop, contrary to section 144(18) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Fail to Stop for Police, contrary to section 216(1) of the HTA
  • Fail to remain, contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the HTA
  • Fail to Report Accident, contrary to section 199(1) of the HTA
  • Fail to Report Damage to Property on Highway, contrary to section 201 of the HTA
  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 14, 2021 in Kapuskasing.
