Driver charged with impaired following collision near Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Sept. 17, 2021 at approximately 9:12 p.m., frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Otto Road one in Otto Township.

The investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene.

As a result, Tavis Gillies, 24 years of age of Corbeil, Ont., has been charged with:
    •    operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
    •    drive while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
    •    having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Oct. 28, 2021.
