Timmins man charged with impaired after crashing into ditch twice

Police say the driver was pulled out of the ditch by a passing motorist before he got back in and took the wheel again

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with an impaired driving related offence stemming from a collision which occurred over the noon hour of Saturday, Jan. 25 on Dalton Road. Timmins Police Service officers responded to the initial call regarding a vehicle in the ditch.

The driver of an Infiniti SUV had the vehicle removed from the ditch by a passing motorist only to return to the ditch upon taking to the wheel a second time. The responding officers noted significant signs of impairment in regards to the driver’s physical demeanor. The driver was arrested and taken into custody in order to complete DRE testing.

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) with the Timmins Police Service completed additional and comprehensive testing procedures on the driver at the police station.

As a result of the incident, Eric Bergeron, 21, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Operate motor vehicle while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released from police custody but must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on Feb. 18 to answer to the charge laid against him.
