Disturbance at downtown business leads to drug charges for Timmins woman

The Timmins Police Service arrested three local residents on the strength of respective arrest warrants which were executed in response to three separate occurrences over the weekend.

While attending at the scene of a disturbance at a downtown business plaza during the evening hours of Friday, Feb. 26, a Timmins Police officer recognized one of the persons involved as being a “wanted person” named in a current arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police. Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

A quantity of fentanyl “purp” was located on the suspect’s person during the arrest procedure.

As a result, Jeanette Okimaw, 23, of Timmins was arrested on the strength of the warrant as well as being charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal code of Canada

She remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to these new charges and the original arrest warrant.

In a separate incident, while completing community safety patrols of the downtown core during the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 27, a Timmins Police Service officer came upon a group of persons involved in suspicious activity in a bank vestibule.

The officer recognize done of the persons involved as being a “wanted person” named in a current arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police. Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result, Desmond Spence, 27, of Timmins was arrested on the strength of the warrant. He remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to charges stemming from a previous incident resulting in the arrest warrant being issued.

Lastly, while attending at the scene of a disturbance at a Kirby apartment building during the evening hours of Sunday, Feb. 28, a Timmins Police officer recognized one of the persons involved as being a “wanted person” named in a current arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police.

Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result, Kyle Archibald, 18, of Timmins was arrested on the strength of the arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police.

He remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges that led to the arrest warrant being issued.
