Commercial vehicle driver accused of impaired driving on Highway 11

On March 29, 2020, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving an erratic driver on Highway 11 east of the Village of Mattice, Ontario.

The suspect commercial motor vehicle was located east of the Village of Harty, Ontario.

Police investigation revealed that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

Yasir Atta, 39-years-old, of Laval, Quebec, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing, on May 4, 2020, to answer to the charges.

The driver was served with a 90 day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
