Cochrane resident charged with impaired driving

Police say the accused was also in possession of suspected methamphetamine

On July 26, 2020, at approximately 12 a.m., the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a stranded Off-Road Vehicle driver stuck on a trail near Highway 636, west of the Town of Cochrane.

Police investigation revealed that the driver who had called was impaired by alcohol and was in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Francis Giangualano, 24-years-old, of Cochrane, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, on Aug. 11, 2020, to answer to the charges.

The driver was served with a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Police are asking the public to call the authorities if they see someone driving after having consumed intoxicating substances.
