Cochrane man accused of impaired driving

COCHRANE - On July 24, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) spoke to a driver that attended the Cochrane Detachment for other reasons, after speaking with the driver, officers suspected the driver of possibly driving while impaired.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. As a result, the driver was arrested, driver's licence suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

David Samuel, 40 years old of Cochrane, was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 31, 2021 in Cochrane.
