Cobalt resident arrested in sexual assault investigation

COBALT - On Aug. 6, 2020, members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Crime Unit commenced an investigation into a sexual assault. The alleged incidents occurred between Aug. 1 and Aug. 6, 2020, involving two separate incidents.

As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old resident of Cobalt is arrested and charged with:
    •    Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code (CC) (two counts), and
    •    Sexual interference, contrary to section 151 of the CC (two counts).

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
