Cobalt man facing online luring, sexual offence charges

On May 27, 2020, shortly after 8:30 a.m. members of the Temiskaming Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police, the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and the Digital Forensic Unit executed a search warrant at residence on West Cobalt Road, in the Town of Cobalt.

Officers had commenced an investigation into alleged sexual offences that occurred between March 16 and May 13, 2020 in the Town of Cobalt. 

As a result of the investigation Jody Bigelow, a 55-year-old resident of Cobalt, was arrested and charged with:

  • Luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunication, contrary to section 172.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Transmit sexually explicit material to a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 171.1(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Indecent exposure to a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 173(2) of the CC,
  • Luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication, contrary to section 172.1(1)(b), and
  • Voyeurism, contrary to section 162(1) of the CC (two counts).

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
