KAPUSKASING — On Aug. 12, 2022, at approximately 3:55 a.m., a Kapuskasing Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol, keeping our highways safe for all motorists, and was heading eastbound on Highway 11, McCrea Township. The officer observed a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) heading towards the OPP vehicle while crossing the yellow line. The OPP officer proceeded to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a head on collision. Subsequently, because of the OPP officers quick thinking, she was able to prevent any injuries by taking the Northbound ditch.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) James Bay Detachments responded to the collision (MVC) with Emergency Medical Services (EMS). No one was injured in this incident.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the CMV was charged with two Part III Summons

  • Careless Driving, contrary to section 130(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Fail to remain, contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the HTA

The OPP would like to remind all motorists to always drive safe, stay alert, and do not drive distracted.
