Barrie driver charged with speeding on Highway 11 near Latchford

Police say the vehicle was going in excess of 110 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone

On July 20, 2021 shortly before 11:30 a.m., a member from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting pro-active patrols on Highway 11, in the Town of Latchford.

A southbound vehicle approached the officer's location, travelling in excess of 110 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 60 km/h zone. 

The 43-year-old driver from Barrie, is charged with race a motor vehicle - excessive speed contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The vehicle was impounded for 14 days and the drivers licence has been suspended for seven days. 

The driver was released by way of a court summons and is scheduled to appear at court on Aug. 26, 2021, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Aggressive driving, including speeding, is one of the leading causal factors in traffic deaths in OPP patrolled areas.
