ATV operator charged after traffic stop in Kirkland Lake

46-year-old from Kirkland Lake faces operation while prohibited, fail to comply charges

KIRKLAND LAKE - On June 11, 2021, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general law enforcement patrol in the Town of Kirkland Lake when they conducted a traffic stop at on an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) being operated on Woods Street at 11:28 p.m.

The investigation revealed that the driver's licence was under suspension for a Criminal Code (CC) offence.

As a result, Jeffrey Renaud, 46 years of age, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following;

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) (three counts)
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to 733.1(1) of the CC

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days as part of the Vehicle Impoundment Program.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear for the Ontario Court of Justice on July 29, 2021, in Kirkland Lake.
