ATV drivers charged with impaired in Matheson

MATHESON – On May 21, 2020 at 9:08 p.m., the Matheson Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a property complaint on Fretz Road in Black-River Matheson.   

Police located two all-terrain vehicles (ATV). 

As a result of the investigation, the OPP have charged Spencer Campsall- Michaud, age 20 of Matheson with the following:     

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC, 
  • Drive off-road vehicle - no number plate contrary to section 3(1) on the Off-Roads Vehicles Act (ORVA); and 
  • Drive off-road vehicle - no permit contrary to section 3(1) of the ORVA

Also charged is Keenan Wasitis-Lindsay, age 20 of Matheson with the following:     

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC,  
  • Drive off-road vehicle - no number plate contrary to section 3(1) on the Off-Roads Vehicles Act (ORVA); and,  
  • Drive off-road vehicle - no permit contrary to section 3(1) of the ORVA

Both drivers were issued a 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and their ATV's were impounded for seven days.  

The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 4, 2020 in Timmins.  

The OPP remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from drug-impaired and alcohol-impaired drivers.
