'Assaultive altercation' that left one injured nets 13 charges for Timmins man

Suspect is accused of assaulting, resisting peace officer, in addition to assault and weapons offences

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a noon hour disturbance that occurred yesterday (April 14) resulting in injury to a 32-year-old female person.

The Timmins Police Service responded to the occurrence where a verbal dispute amongst acquaintances escalated to the point where the suspects assaulted the victim. The assaultive altercation occurred at a Father Les Costello Drive residence.

The responding Timmins Police officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest one of the suspects at the scene while the other two fled on foot.

As a result, David Sutherland, 35, of Timmins has been charged with:

  • Three counts of assault peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Break and enter contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Carry a concealed weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

The victim received medical attention for the injuries she sustained during the altercation.

Arrest warrants are being sought by the Timmins Police for the other two suspects.
