On June 28, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a sexual assault in the Town of Kirkland Lake.
As a result of the investigation, Ethan Labine, age 20 from Kirkland Lake, was charged with the following:
- Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Failure to comply with undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC, and
- Distribute cannabis to individual under 18 years of age, contrary to section 9(1)(a)(ii) of the Cannabis Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Sept. 3, 2020.
