Arrest made following heavy police presence in Cobalt

A 20-year-old from Quebec has been arrested in connection with the incident

On Sunday July 12, 2020, at 1:34 pm, the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance call on Lang Street in the Town of Cobalt.

A suspect fled from the responding officers. Police set up a perimeter in the area. The OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit attended and the suspect was taken into custody around 4 p.m. without incident.

As a result, Robbie Polson, a 20-year-old person from Notre-Dame-du-Nord, Que., has been charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Cause Disturbance, contrary to section 175(1)(a) CC;
  • Fail to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) CC

The accused was held in police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Temiskaming Shores for a bail hearing on July 13, 2020.

The OPP would like to thank the citizens of Cobalt for their cooperation and assistance during this occurrence, as public safety remains the top priority for the OPP.
