TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE

The Timmins Police Service has charged a person with theft-related offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the afternoon hours of Saturday, Oct. 16 at a Brunette Road grocery store in Timmins.
A Timmins Police Service officer responded to the call for service regarding a suspicious person who had been asked to vacate the premises.
The suspect became disruptive and proceeded to assault the store clerk and then proceeded to collect two cans of beer as he fled the store.
Based on the investigation, the responding officer was able to identify, locate, and arrest the male suspect a short distance from the store entrance as he was consuming the stolen beer.
The subject was taken into custody and escorted to the Timmins Police station.
Later on that same day, while in custody, the suspect engaged in assaultive behaviour toward a Timmins Police officer.
As a result of the incident, Norman Williams, 53, of Timmins, has been charged with:
- Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Cause Disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Being Intoxicated in Public contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
- Consume Liquor in Public contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
- Assault Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- 5 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Williams remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
