Arrest made after tenant assaulted, threatened with knife: Police

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a series of mischief and assault related offences stemming from an incident that occurred early this morning at a Cedar Street North apartment.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a matter where [it is alleged that] a male guest at the apartment became disruptive and began to break contents of the apartment against the wishes of the tenant. The matter escalated and the male subject assaulted the tenant, brandishing a knife at one point and uttered death threats towards the tenant. Becoming aware that the police had been contacted, the male suspect fled on foot.

The man was positively identified to the responding Timmins Police Service officers who located and arrested the suspect a short distance from the original scene.

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, Brendan Wesley, 24, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Uttering threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
