A Timmins man allegedly pointed a can of bear spray at officers after being pulled over for driving erratically.
Yesterday morning (Jan. 26), a Timmins Police officer saw a pickup truck on Fifth Avenue being driven erratically and "continuously and persistently" spinning the rear wheels.
"The driver refused to bring the vehicle to a stop as directed by police and eventually came to a stop on Cedar Street North," reads the Timmins Police news release.
"The driver deployed a canister of bear spray within the vehicle and persisted in pointing the canister at the responding officers."
When the accused was eventually arrested, police say he was in possession of a controlled substance and had a knife hanging around his neck. He was brought to the station for Drug Recognition Expert testing.
As a result, a 34-year-old man from Timmins has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, three counts of driving while prohibited, assaulting a peace officer, improper muffler, stunt driving, driving while under suspension, and possession of a controlled substance.
The vehicle was impounded and the accused was held in police custody waiting for a bail hearing today.
