Alleged impaired driver leaves scene of crash: Police

During the investigation, police say they learned that the vehicle had been taken without the owner's knowledge or consent

A driver who allegedly fled the scene of a collision is facing impaired charges.

Early in the morning of Saturday, May 27, Timmins Police were called to a crash that happened in the parking lot of a Harold Avenue retail store. 

"Once on scene, it was determined that one of the drivers had fled the area but was located a short while later," said Timmins Police in a news release.

The suspect was arrested and brought to the Timmins Police Service station for breath testing. During the investigation, police say it was learned that the vehicle had been taken without the owner's knowledge or consent.

A 36-year-old from Timmins is charged with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
  • Operating a motor vehicle - over 80 mgs 
  • Theft 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Failing to remain 
  • Driving while prohibited
  • Failing to stop at accident 
  • Drive while under suspension

The accused is in police custody waiting for a bail hearing today (May 29).

The charges have not been tested in court.
