The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal  Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred at local bank during the early afternoon hours of Thursday, Jan. 27.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a disturbance in progress involving an agitated person who was brandishing a weapon and persisted in yelling and alarming bank customers.

Initial attempts by on-site security personnel to have the man leave the area were unsuccessful.

Responding Timmins Police officers managed to escort the male subject from the premises in order to complete the arrest.

In the course of the arrest, the male subject continued to yell obscenities towards all persons present.

This forms part of a larger continuous pattern of disruptive behaviour on the part of the same suspect who had engaged in similar behaviour on three previous occasions earlier in January.

As a result of the incident, Barry Godin, 47, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Cause Disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Criminal Harassment contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario  Court of Justice in Timmins to address the charges laid against him.
