ATTAWAPISKAT - Seven teens arrested after an assault over the weekend are connected to other violent incidents over the last couple of months, says police.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) arrested seven people ranging in age from 13 to 18 years who allegedly assaulted two people early that morning on Tamarack Street in Attawapiskat, a remote community on the James Bay coast.
One of the victims was transported out of the remote community for further medical care.
"The exact extent of both victims’ injuries is unknown at this time, but are not believed to be life-threatening," said NAPS in a Sept. 30 news release.
Since Aug. 12, NAPS says it's been investigating multiple alleged violent assaults. Four of the seven people arrested over the weekend are linked to other ongoing investigations.
An 18-year-old man from Attawapiskat is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.
A 15-year-old boy from Attawapiskat is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon in connection with Saturday's incident. For two previous incidents, he is also charged with two counts of assault, assaulting a peace officer, mischief, unlawful assembly, criminal harassment, uttering threats, disguise with intent and intimidation.

For three separate incidents, he's also charged with assault with a weapon, two counts of assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unlawful assembly, disguise with intent and initimidation.
A 16-year-old boy from Attawapiskat is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and failing to comply with an undertaking in connection with Saturday's incident. For two other incidents, he is also charged with two counts of assault and mischief.
A 13-year-old boy from Attawapiskat is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and breach of recognizance.
A 17-year-old boy from Attawapiskat is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.
The names of the youth have not been released due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
All of the suspects had a bail hearing on Monday, Sept. 30.
The 18-year-old remains in police custody and the other accused were released. All have future court appearances.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
