15-year-old threatens teen on social media: police

The accused also allegedly tried to encourage other people to harm a 14-year-old girl

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local young person with Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred yesterday evening (Aug. 10) via social media in Timmins.

Timmins Police Service officers responded to an incident a 15-year-old male young person uttered threats and attempted to entice and enlist others to cause bodily harm to a 14-year-old female Timmins resident by means of social media communications.

Based on the ensuing investigation, the suspect was identified, located, and arrested at his residence in Timmins later on that same evening.

Based on the outcome of the incident, a 15-year-old male resident of Timmins who cannot be named in keeping with statutory restrictions, has been charged with: 

  • 2 counts of Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Conspiracy to Commit Offence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a Bail Hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
