Teenager charged with assault after man's face cut

A 15-year-old male faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and uttering threats; bail hearing scheduled for today

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a mid-afternoon disturbance at a Pine Street South apartment that occurred yesterday resulting in injury to a 50-year-old male person.

The Timmins Police Service investigated an occurrence where a male young person entered into a verbal dispute with residents of the apartment which escalated to the point where threats were made towards two female occupants.

A male person was called to the scene to attempt to restore order. During an ensuing altercation, the 50-year-old man was assaulted with a weapon resulting in a facial laceration that required treatment at the Timmins and District Hospital.

The suspect fled prior to police arrival but was located and arrested that same day.

As a result, a 15-year-old male young person, who cannot be named in keeping with statutory requirements, has been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to comply with undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
