13-year-old faces threats, extortion charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local young person with Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the afternoon hours of Thursday, July 22 in the Pine South area of Timmins.

Timmins Police Service officers investigated a disturbance between young persons familiar with each other which culminated in threats being issued by one of the subjects present.

The suspect was eventually located and taken into custody by the Timmins Police Service on July 24.

Based on the outcome of the incident, a 13-year-old male party, who cannot be named in keeping with statutory requirements, has been charged with:

  • Utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Extortion contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail To comply with release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
