One person found dead after house fire in Toronto's east end

Toronto Fire Services say one person is dead after a two-alarm house fire in the city's east end early Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson says crews responded around 12:45 a.m. to the fire at a two-storey, semi-detached home, just north of Pape Avenue and Gerrard Street.

The spokesperson says crews had to force their way into the home, where they found a person dead on the second floor. The fire service says no other people were inside the house.

Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring homes. The spokesperson says two people in a home directly beside the fire were evacuated, but did not sustain injuries.

Toronto fire investigators and the Ontario fire marshal are investigating the cause.
