Canadian women's basketball team loses to Great Britain in exhibition game

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom — The Canadian women's basketball team completed a European tour with an 0-4 record after a 67-53 loss to Great Britain in an exhibition game on Wednesday.

Ruth Hamblin of Houston, B.C., led Canada with 13 points, while Kayla Alexander had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Karlie Samuelson and Johannah Leedham had 16 points apiece for Great Britain.

The hosts started the game on a 7-0 run and led 19-7 after one quarter.

Canada trimmed the deficit to one point in the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback.

Canada lost exhibition games to China, Belgium and Spain last week in Belgium.

The next major competition for Canada is the Pan American Games, starting next month in Peru.
