THVS Blues win both titles at historic hoops tournament

It was a highly successful weekend for the Timmins High and Vocational School Blues basketball program, as they were crowned champions in the both the junior and senior division at the 48th annual Zenon Ziemba Invitational tournament.

Jack Hagerty scored 27 points in the senior final at the Blues bested their hometown rival O'Gorman Knights with a 58-38 victory on Saturday night. Chris Lachappelle was named tournament most valuable player.

Meanwhile in the junior final, the Blues defeted LoEllen Park Secondary School from Sudbury 50-31. Owen Hagerty was named tournament MVP.

Hosted by O'Gorman High School, the Zenon Ziemba tournament has become one of the highlights of the boys basketball season. It is in honour of a former O'Gorman student athlete who passed away tragically in an automobile accident at just 19 years of age.
