Yo! Burger giving back to the community (2 photos)

Proceeds from Foster Jane's dish going to the Yo! Mobile

If Foster Jane’s first lunch hour serving up Yo! Burgers is any indication, the TImmins restaurant’s fundraiser is going to be a success.

Until Oct. 31, 100 per cent of the proceeds from the special burger featuring northern flavours and toppings are for the Yo! Mobile, which provides warm clothing and warm meal to people in need free of charge.

“If it carries on the way it is, then I have an idea it is going to be very, very successful,” said Michael Yorke after today’s lunch rush.

It was only yesterday that Foster Jane, which is located at the Ramada, shared the initiative on their Facebook page.

“The support was overwhelming, I didn’t expect the response,” said Christina Goldstone. “I just posted it yesterday morning and the last time I checked it was almost 300 shares alone. And then of course those people shared from their pages, and their friends shared from there, so the word’s out and that’s great.”

The Yo! Burger is $15 and features two beef patties, a cheese bun, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, maple barbecue sauce made in-house, mozzarella cheese and peameal bacon. It also comes with your choice of a side.

This isn’t the first time the restaurant is helping out the community.

Last year, Goldstone said they held a toy drive for Project Love.

Knowing they wanted to continue sharing the wealth, Goldstone said Yorke and Pat Senywongse brainstormed and came up with something unique in the Yo! Burger.

The Yo! Mobile was chosen as the charity because their season is just starting, and Goldstone said they can always use a helping hand with donations.

“Whether this is a success or not…we’re not just going to stop with the Yo! Mobile. We’d like to see the food bank and Project Love again and just other local charities that we know that the proceeds are going to go directly to who they say they’re going to,” said Yorke.

Foster Jane is open Tuesday to Sunday. While they don’t offer delivery, you can call in a take-out order.

Throughout the Yo! Burger campaign there will also be a donation jar at the restaurant’s bar for monetary donations. They’re also collecting gift cards for things such as gas, grocery stores, Tim Hortons and McDonald’s; small clothing items like gloves, mitts, toques or socks; and personal hygiene items like shampoo, soap, mouthwash, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.

“At the end of the month hopefully we’ll have a big pile to offer to Mario and his team and they can hit the streets,” she said.
