Wynne tours new housing development

Premier will be making an announcement in Timmins Thursday morning

Premier Kathleen Wynne arrived in Timmins on Wednesday evening for a tour of the Timmins Native Friendship Centre. She was joined by Ottawa-Vanier MPP Nathalie Des Rosiers, who is also in the city for an announcement which will take place on Thursday morning at the YMCA.

Media was invited to attend the event, but Wynne did not take any questions from reporters on Wednesday evening.

Wynne and Des Rosiers, along with Timmins Mayor Steve Black, who will have a closed door meeting with Wynne on Thursday, were given a tour of the new housing development on the south side of the Timmins Native Friendship Centre property, which was formerly Flora MacDonald Public School.

The development was discussed at city council in September, as an opportunity for new, quality affordable housing. Upon completion there will be 18 new residential units at the site, which will include a parking lot exiting onto Kimberley Avenue.

Wynne, surrounded by her entourage of aides and allies, seemed very impressed with the interiors of the units.

There is no word on the nature of the announcement taking place on Thursday morning, but media questions will be fielded.
