Workplace COVID outbreak, exposure advisory in Earlton

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at an Earlton automotive business.

The Timiskaming Health Unit (THU) has also issued an advisory about potential low-risk exposure to the virus.

The outbreak is at Nor-Arc Auto Service Centre in Earlton. 

Anyone who visited the auto or mechanic shop Friday, Sept. 24 to Tuesday, Oct. 5 should self-monitor for COVID symptoms. If symptoms develop, call your local assessment centre for testing. You do not need to be tested if you do not have symptoms.

People who are unsure if they should be tested can call the Timiskaming Health Unit at 1-866-747-4305 ext. 7.

Yesterday, five new COVID-19 cases and one probable case were reported for the Timiskaming area, which covers from Kirkland Lake to Temagami. Four of those cases were in the central part of the region and two were in the south end.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, there have been 231 confirmed cases of the virus. Of those, 217 are recovered and two people have died. There are 12 known active cases, including one person in hospital.

From Aug. 1 to Oct. 6 there were 23 COVID-19 cases reported in the region. THU reports that 90 per cent of its new and probable cases were in people who were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 10 per cent of people were fully vaccinated.
