Work starts to tear down once-popular Schumacher bar

So far, only the front of the Grandview has been removed

A once-popular watering hole in Schumacher is being torn down.

Work to demolish the Grandview Hotel on the community's main drag is underway. This afternoon, a pile of rubble from the front of the building was behind a fenced off area in front of the building on Father Costello Drive near the McIntyre Road intersection.

So far, only the front of the building has been removed. People walking past stopped to remember the good times and beverages they've enjoyed in the building.

The bar hasn't been open in years. It suffered a fire in 2018. Since then, the building has been boarded up. The broken windows and graffiti was used as an example of a derelict building back in 2019 when council members started pushing for the city to get tough on property standards.

Timmins was featured in two episodes, including the season premiere. Members of the team stopped by the Grandview and removed the historic bar from the building.
