Over the past several days, police have seen a significant increase in motor vehicle collisions throughout the city. Many of these collisions have been due to the fact that drivers are not adjusting their driving habits to the winter road conditions.
On Dec. 13 alone, there were a total of 16 collisions reported to police. Most of these collisions may have been avoided by simply slowing down, allowing more time to arrive at a destination, and paying extra attention to conditions, especially at intersections where roads can become slippery.
In extreme cold weather, roads can become snow packed and slippery. The public is reminded to use caution and be aware of road conditions, which can change quickly during winter months.
Adjusting speeds and planning for any delays, as well as keeping a safe distance between vehicles and clearing all snow and ice from vehicles can all help to ensure a safe winter for everyone using the road.
