The smoke in the air today is from a forest fire in Elk Lake area, according to the Timmins Fire Department.

According to the department, the south wind is blowing the smoke into the Timmins area.

While the city has escaped a fire ban so far, the department says it will be issuing one today.

As of last night, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says there are 67 active fires in the northeast region, 32 of which are not under control.

More details on the fires and crews coming in from other provinces to help is available here.
