Timmins Centennial celebrates Franco-Ontarian Day

Students at Timmins Centennial Public School celebrated Journee Franco-Ontarien (Franco-Ontarian Day) on Friday, Sept. 23.

The day is usually celebrated on Sept. 25. The day recognizes the cultural, historical, social, economic and political contributions of the Francophone community in Ontario. Sept. 25 is also the anniversary of the first raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag in 1975.

To mark the day, all students wore green and white, and decorated the foyer and gym with Franco-Ontarian flags.

They learned about the history of the flag, and were taught the song Mon beau drapeau.
